This week, AIP Foundation and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation’s Developing Work for Traffic Police to Reduce Road Accident (phase 4) Project held a brainstorming meeting on the Appropriate Speed Limit for Road Traffic Act B.E. 2522 (1979) at I Residence Hotel in Bangkok.

The meeting aimed to provide a platform for agencies responsible for setting the speed limit including the Department of Highways and the Royal Thai Police, key stakeholders, and academics and road safety experts to share information and discuss how to tackle existing loopholes and gaps in Thailand’s speed limit laws. Additionally, the meeting sought to set appropriate and effective default speed limits for each road type.

Among theday’s special guests were Pol. Maj. Gen. Ekkarak Limsangkat, head of the Road Traffic Act Reform Working Group, and Chumpot Wannachatsiri, director of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation’s Road Safety Operation Center.

The Legal Development Program (LDP) is a collaboration between AIP Foundation Thailand and the World Health Organization (WHO) and aims to reduce road injuries and fatalities through legislative improvement. LDP is supported by the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS).
