In Memoriam Secretary Norman Y. Mineta. (November 12, 1931 – May 3, 2022)
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Secretary Norman Y. Mineta on 3 May, who served on the AIP Foundation Leadership Council from 2009.
Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences are with his family during this difficult time.
On behalf of our Founder and President, Greig Craft, we respectfully share the following statement:
“Today is a sad day for all of us at AIP Foundation as we say farewell to Secretary Norman Yoshio Mineta.
First and foremost, our heartfelt thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
Secretary Mineta had a successful career as a dedicated public servant, always putting the needs of others before himself. He was the United States Secretary of Transportation from 2001 to 2006, a Secretary of Commerce, first Asian American Mayor of San Jose, California and a member of Congress from 1975 – 1995. Leaving a lasting legacy of his political leadership, he was also the first Asian American to serve in a Presidential cabinet.
At AIP Foundation, he served on our Leadership Council from 2009. In this role Secretary Mineta heralded road safety messages across our region and was a life-long supporter of our work, passionately sharing our vision of a world with zero road injuries and fatalities.
We are deeply saddened by his passing and we will miss him dearly. He was our friend, our mentor, and above all, our role model. His spirit will live on in our hearts, and through our mission, to improve the global road safety crisis. We will miss you Mr. Mayor, Mr. Secretary, Mr. Congressman, and thank you for the bright light that you were; for your humanity, and for the legacy that you leave us.”
