Letter from our President

Dear Friends,

As I reflect on the milestones of 2025, I am struck by how a single mission—protecting lives on the road—has evolved into a powerful global movement. While our journey began decades ago, this past year has been a definitive chapter in our efforts to scale impact across Asia and the Pacific.

We have scaled local successes to build a unified regional front. Our signature Helmets for Kids program, which was launched in 2000 in Vietnam, has now evolved into a regional network of impactful helmet coalitions. Through the Safe Helmets for Asia Pacific Initiative (SHAP) and our expanded global outreach, we are now sharing critical knowledge and technical expertise with 23 countries worldwide. My tenure as FIA Region II President allowed us to strengthen the bridge between grassroots advocacy and global policy. I am dedicated to sustaining this momentum and expanding our long-term global impact.

The data from Vietnam continues to serve as our "North Star," proving that persistence in policy and partnerships pays off. By the end of 2025, eighteen years after Vietnam’s landmark national helmet law was passed, the impact is enormous:

• 46,131 lives have been saved
• 1,515,733 head injuries have been prevented
• US$ 12.045 billion has been saved in medical costs and lost economic productivity.

Beyond statistics, these figures represent families kept whole and their loved ones' futures preserved. They reaffirm that our continued push for robust road safety policies, multi-sector partnerships, and evidence-based solutions is the most effective way to protect vulnerable road users across the region.

On a personal note, I was humbled this year to be awarded the Order of Merit by the President and Prime Minister of Italy. Being recognized with this knighthood is a profound honor that speaks to the strength of international friendship and our shared commitment to social impact.

From my early days of promoting the normalization of Vietnam–U.S. relations to founding AIP Foundation, my heart has always remained with the people of this region. The progress we celebrated in 2025 was made possible through your continued support.

As we look toward the coming year, let us carry this momentum forward, ensuring that every journey—in every country—is a safe one.
