Health, Safety & Well-being

Community health, safety, and well-being are directly influenced by mobility systems:

The transportation sector accounts for nearly one-quarter of global energy-related carbon dioxide emissions, exposing urban and high-traffic communities to increasingly severe health effects.
Road crashes cost countries around 3% of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) – reducing access to essential services, raising healthcare costs, and creating financial and psychological hardship for impacted individuals and their overall quality of life.

AIP Foundation works to address these issues by implementing programs that promote cleaner technologies and more efficient vehicles, combined with safer and greener environments for pedestrians and cyclists. In doing so, we can reduce emissions, improve air quality, and promote physical and mental health.

Highlight Impacts:

Since 2008,

lives were saved due to the helmet law in Vietnam.

In 2025, we supported the assessment of

1,028

school zones to create safer environments.

Our Eco-Safe Driving training led to

of drivers reducing carbon emissions.

Health, Safety & Well-being

Safe and Healthy Journeys to School

Children are among the most vulnerable road users – particularly in school environments where traffic speed and unsafe infrastructure put young lives at risk daily. We are working with schools, governments, and communities to transform high-risk school areas into safer, healthier spaces through road assessments, infrastructure upgrades, and advocacy to reduce speed and create environments that protect children.

Our work is guided by international best practices and evidence-based tools that help standardize school zone safety. Beyond safety, our efforts promote walking and active mobility as part of a healthy school journey.

Protecting Our Planet

As cities around the world grapple with rising carbon emissions and unsustainable transport systems, our green mobility initiatives aim to create safer, cleaner, and more sustainable ways for people to move. In Cambodia, we are working with commercial vehicle fleets to promote eco-friendly driving practices and empower drivers to become ambassadors for both safety and sustainability. Across the region, we are working with schools and communities to promote walking and the use of bicycles by improving infrastructure, providing safety equipment, and raising awareness about green mobility.

Mental Health and Well-being

Good mental health is fundamental to our ability to stay safe, make sound decisions, and build resilient communities. For young people – especially in urbanizing regions – mental well-being directly influences how they navigate public spaces as road users. When youth feel connected, confident, and supported, they are more likely to avoid risky behaviors and become active participants in building safer, healthier environments.

In Vietnam, we are responding to this need by harnessing digital tools and peer-to-peer learning to empower youth with emotional intelligence, stronger communication skills, and a sense of agency. By linking mental well-being with safe mobility, we are shaping a generation of young leaders equipped to address the disproportionate burden of road traffic injuries in low-and middle-income countries.
