AIP Foundation staff and youth ambassadors advocate distracted driving policy implementation to local bus companies

Over the past few weeks, youth ambassadors for road safety (YARS) representatives met with government officials and local bus company operators to discuss and advocate for a distracted driving policy implementation. AIP Foundation also trained YARS on the best ways to present and facilitate workshops. Students from three Phnom Penh universities spoke with H.E. Min Meanvy, Secretary of State, Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Secretary General of the National Road Safety Committee and with H.E. Him Yan, Deputy General Commissioner of General Commissariat of National Police. Meetings were also held with Mr Phim Monisetha, Secretary General of Cambodian Higher Education Association, Mrs. Chornchan Leakhena, Chairwoman of the Khmer Art Association, and the Directors of Cambodia Bus Association, Sorya Bus Company and Giant Ibis Company.  YARS with support from AIP Foundation presented a distracted driving policy joint statement and distributed safety pamphlets and stickers for promoting safe driver behavior and warning of the dangers of using a mobile phone while driving to bus drivers and passengers. Over the next few weeks, YARS have plans to engage with local celebrities, media personalities, and members of the religious community to encourage them to use their influence to promote safe driving practices to young people.
