August 19, 2022

HANOI, Vietnam – August 19, 2022

We are delighted to announce the winners of the Heads Up! Regional video competition:

  • Winning team: Fifty Five Productions from De La Salle Lipa (DLSL) the Philippines
  • 2nd Place: Jevah Mae Piamonte from Samar State University
  • 3rd Place: Ailyn Capuyan from Cebu Technological University Tuburan Campus

After eight months, the regional video competition has come to a conclusion! The winning team appealed to our innermost emotions, asking us to reflect on the importance of our memories and what we can easily do to keep our most cherished thoughts safe. A beautifully filmed video, highlighting the stark consequence of not wearing a helmet.

The Heads Up! project invited university students to take center stage by participating in a regional video competition to design effective communication campaigns, raising awareness for their peers and general road users of the life-saving importance of helmet safety. Around the world, helmets are a uniquely affordable and effective protection against head injuries on the road. Wearing a quality helmet can reduce the risk of death by 42% and the risk of serious brain injury by 69%

The Heads Up! project team would like to thank all the students who have registered to participate and followed the contest closely. Whether you are a finalist or not, this is a precious journey in your youth. Congratulations to all entrants for your hard work.

Empowering youth for road safety

Youth — which makes up about one-fifth of the population — now own the streets of Southeast Asia. This means the youth has the power to make roads a safer place. Voices of the youth are one of the most powerful vehicle towards monumental changes. And these voices, filled with passion, creativity and aspiration, took the spotlight in the new Heads Up! project.

Leading youth advocate Jimmy Tang, our Development and Strategic Partnerships Manager at AIP Foundation, who served on the Board of Judges for this competition shared, “the main mission of Heads Up! was to engage and educate youth on the importance of using high-quality helmets and helmet safety, in general. We are strong believers that young leaders of today are incredibly passionate and creative. Our video competition provided young people with the platform to serve as ambassadors for helmet safety while creating powerful messages that are directly relevant to their peers.”

Life-changing Prizes for the winning contestants!

The First prize team will receive 1,000 USD and technical support to develop its video output into a full-fledged campaign that will be part of the global launch. The Second prize is 500 USD and the third prize is 300 USD respectively. Finalists will also receive a Certificate acknowledged by the FIA Region II and AIP Foundation recognizing their contributions to promoting regional helmet safety in the Asia Pacific.
