Vietnam National Scientific Conference on Injury Prevention: Advancing Safe School Zones and Sustainability across the country

October 28, 2024

HANOI, Vietnam – October 28, 2024

The Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Hanoi University of Public Health, held the 4th National Scientific Conference on Injury Prevention, with a key focus on “Reducing the Burden of Injury: The Effectiveness of Sustainable Policies and Interventions.” The conference brought together leading experts and stakeholders from across Vietnam and beyond to discuss effective strategies for tackling injury prevention, with a particular emphasis on road safety and its impact on vulnerable populations across the country.

AIP Foundation was honored to contribute to the discussions, with Phong Le, Country Manager for AIP Foundation Vietnam, presenting in the first session on “Road traffic injuries prevention”. His presentation highlighted the success of the Safe School Zones model, a pioneering initiative aimed at improving road safety around schools. He shared valuable insights into the program’s implementation, its positive outcomes in reducing traffic-related injuries near schools, and the importance of ongoing collaboration with government and local communities.

Additionally, Phong Le introduced the recently launched Safe School Zones Guide, a vital resource developed in partnership with the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam and the FIA Foundation. Officially released in October 2023 in Vietnamese and in April 2024 in English, the Safe School Zones Guide provides a comprehensive technical blueprint for urban planners, engineers, and policymakers to address the issue of safe mobility around schools across the country.

The conference served as an important platform for sharing knowledge and fostering partnerships that will drive meaningful change in injury prevention across Vietnam. As safe mobility advocates, AIP Foundation remains committed to working with the government, the private sector, and local communities to ensure that the Safe School Zone model continues to grow and evolve, saving lives and creating safer environments for children across the country.
