With the support of Save the Children, AIP Foundation held a training of trainers for police and law enforcement officers on school safety awareness in Bangkok as part of The 7% Project.

The training began with presentations by guest speakers from AIP Foundation and Save the Children. Then Pol. Col. Surasak Laohaphiboonkun, along with two Legal Development Program members Pol. Col. Jinda Klubklaye and Pisith Wongthiathana, took turns leading the discussion on traffic management around schools.

Afterwards, the participants had an opportunity to work in groups to identify the problems and obstacles of school safety and develop joint district plans to improve the safety of students while traveling to and from school. Among the suggestions given were physical environment modifications, use of technology to improve school drop-off and pick-up, and compulsory road safety education in schools.

The one-day training was attended by 48 participants including 20 police and law enforcement officers, seven education officials and six district officials from eight districts in Bangkok (Prawet, Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Wang Thonglang, Min Buri, Yannawa, Bang Kapi, Phasi Charoen and Don Mueang).

The 7% Project is a collaboration between AIP Foundation and Save the Children. The project aims to increase engagement of school authorities to encourage helmet use among children and families; strengthen the capacity of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration staff, teachers, community members, and youth leaders; and engage police stakeholders to actively enforce traffic laws.
