BANGKOK, Thailand – September 14-16, 2022
In contribution to achieving the target of Sustainable Development Goal 3.6 to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic crashes, the Hauling Safety program, supported by Toll Group, hosted a series of student and teacher training workshops in September.
Two schools have been selected for road safety training courses in 2022: Soon Ruam Namchai School and Promrach Rungsan School. The selection was guided by the local government and based on risk-assessment surveys, which demonstrated the schools’ and communities’ need for a comprehensive safety intervention.
The students and teachers from both program schools attended the training in which they learned more about the road safety situation in Thailand, how to behave on the road, how to be aware of the potential dangers on the road to react accordingly and stay safe. They also learned about basic knowledge of traffic regulations and rules as well as how to correctly use their helmets and pedestrian knowledge to navigate the streets safely. For the students at Promrach Rungsan School, the highlight of the training was the street crossing simulation where they learned new road safety skills for life.
Hauling Safety in Thailand: Engaging Communities for a safer future
Since 2020, AIP Foundation has partnered with Toll Group to implement the Hauling Safety program in Thailand, aimed at supporting communities in tackling high-risk journeys for students traveling to and from school through quality safety education and equipment for students, parents, and community members.
The tailored Hauling Safety program includes quality road safety education, road modifications and provides safety equipment to students. The road modifications outside the school area put the students, parents, and teachers first, championing a human-centric approach to mobility and safety.
At the core of this Hauling Safety program, activities are empowering and engaging our youth to be safer road users. The program is inherently aligned with the Global Plan and Thailand’s National Road Safety plan.
