The Safety Delivered 2019-2020 program, in collaboration with the Thai Nguyen Department of Education and Bureau of Education and Training, hosted an orientation workshop for 160 attendees including teachers, parents, and government representatives on November 1, 2019. Through the program, a teacher training was also held for teachers and parents from 11 program schools in Thai Nguyen Province, Vietnam.
The workshop began with an introductory overview of the road safety environment in Vietnam, as well as the aim of the Safety Delivered program, followed by a discussion of pre-intervention observation results of helmet wearing at the project schools. Across all 11 schools, the average rate of helmet wearing among children was 27%. Co Lung Primary school saw the lowest helmet wearing rates among students at just 7%.
Teachers were then trained on proper helmet use, including methods to ensure correct size, fit, and use of a chin strap, and the process of completing a crash report in the event of a road crash. The workshop concluded with statements of commitment and support for AIP Foundation’s Safety Delivered program from delegates from the Thai Nguyen Traffic Safety Committee, Department of Education and Training, and school representatives.
