
The Safe School Zones Technical Lead will provide regional technical leadership for AIP Foundation’s Safe School Zones – Southeast Asia (SSZ-SEA) initiative. Based in Cambodia, this role supports the design, implementation, and institutionalization of safe school zone interventions across multiple Southeast Asian countries. The position combines road safety engineering expertise, program leadership, and multi-stakeholder coordination, working closely with government partners, development partners, and multilateral development banks to integrate child-focused road safety solutions into policies, infrastructure, and financing systems. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The responsibilities listed below are inclusive, but not exhaustive, of the role. It is reasonable to assume that additional tasks will be required, as and when necessary. Technical & Program Leadership Provide technical leadership for the SSZ-SEA program, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based school zone interventions. Oversee technical assessments and review designs for safe school zone infrastructure. Ensure alignment with international best practices and regional road safety standards. Stakeholder & Partner Engagement Serve as AIP Foundation’s technical focal point with government counterparts, development partners, and multilateral development banks. Support collaboration with ministries, road safety agencies, and education authorities across Southeast Asia. Contribute to regional learning and knowledge exchange on safe school zone implementation. Policy, Capacity Building & Knowledge Sharing Support the development and strengthening of national and regional safe school zone guidelines and action plans. Contribute to capacity building activities, including trainings, workshops, and technical exchanges. Support documentation of lessons learned and best practices for donors and partners. Monitoring, Reporting & Learning Oversee technical inputs into monitoring and reporting related to SSZ interventions. Contribute to progress reports, technical briefs, and learning products at national and regional levels. REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS Essential Degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering, Urban Infrastructure, or a related field. At least 8 years of professional experience in road safety, transport infrastructure, or traffic engineering. Strong understanding of pedestrian safety and child-focused road infrastructure. Experience working with government counterparts and development partners. Proficiency in English; Khmer language skills strongly preferred. Desirable Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field. Experience working with multilateral development banks or regional road safety initiatives. Experience with international NGOs, UN agencies, or multi-country programs.
