On May 11, 2011, more than 80 countries worldwide celebrated the launch of the Decade of Action for Road Safety (2011-2020). The UN Resolution calls for a 50 percent reduction in road traffic fatalities by 2020. This resolution can have a tremendous impact on the world’s awareness of road traffic accidents as a critical public health issue.
