Road safety leaders start the New Year off strong in Vietnam

January 29, 2021

DAK LAK PROVINCE, Vietnam—January 27 – 29, 2021

Buon Ma Thuot, a city in the Central Highlands of Vietnam known for its aromatic coffee beans, still faces challenges with keeping members of the community safe, especially children. In an effort to combat these challenges, the SAFE STEPS KIDS – Road Safety program, supported by Prudential Vietnam, organized Safety Tour with its very first stop at Nguyen Viet Xuan Primary School.

The program, organized by AIP Foundation, spent two and a half-day training for 598 students through a series of educational and entertaining (‘edutainment’) activities focused on safety tips on helmet and pedestrian safety. The activities included a traffic simulation corner in the schoolyard that imitated real road environments including intersections, street lights, common traffic signs, and obstacles on the pavement that the students commonly encounter on their commute to and from school. Students learned how to safely navigate and use their roads. An interactive Q&A session closed out the event, where students were able to generate an open discussion around how to improve safety amongst their peers.

Over the next few months, the SAFE STEPS KIDS – Road Safety program will continue its Safety Tour visiting the other project school, Tu Lan primary school in Viet Yen District, Bac Giang Province and training more than 669 students.
