This month, initial Road Safety Working Group (RSWG) meetings were held at garment and footwear factories for discussions on the Garment and Footwear Factory Workers Road Safety pilot program. The RSWG meetings, attended by 65 participants across three provinces included representatives from all sections of the factory – including workers, management, HR, security, trade unions, and health clinics. AIP Foundation staff presented an introduction to the Transportation Safety pilot program with an emphasis on the important role that the Road Safety Working Groups and their members will play in supporting the development and delivery of program initiatives. RSWG members collaborated to identify key road safety risks affecting commuting workers and brainstormed feasible ways to address them. The groups will also provide input on Factory Transport Safety Policy and Safe Road User Guidelines which will be disseminated at participating factories.
The pilot is a 12 month program which aims to improve road safety knowledge and road user behaviors of workers, drivers and enhance the capacity factory representatives to address safety issues for commuting workers. The program is being delivered at 5 garment and footwear factories across Cambodia.
