BANGKOK, Thailand – 9 January 2026

On January 9, AIP Foundation hosted the second capacity-building workshop for its Safeguard – Helmet Advocacy Initiative program in Bangkok. The program, supported by the FIA Foundation, was launched to improve existing helmet policy implementation and enforcement strategies in Thailand. 

This workshop was conducted to continue enhancing the capabilities of the Initiative’s Technical Working Group (TWG) members and further develop the Initiative’s action plan. 31 TWG members from across various sectors attended the workshop. Attendees included representatives from government agencies, the private sector, civil society, and research institutions. Jimmy Tang, Chief of Staff, and Chaba Chaijaree, Senior Program Consultant, led the workshop on behalf of AIP Foundation.

Activities throughout the workshop were guided by the objectives of 1) Refining the Initiative’s action plans across four strategic pillars 2) Ensuring that plans are not only comprehensive but implementable and 3) Strengthening of the TWG coalition. Activity highlights included:

• Reviewing the results from the first capacity building workshop in December and a recap of the TWG’s shared goals
• Refining of the Action Plan based on the Initiative’s four strategic pillars – helmet standardization, market surveillance, enforcement integration, and behavioral change
• Reviewing international case studies on effective road safety network collaboration and law enforcement strategies for behavioral change, accompanied by Q&A sessions

The Safeguard initiative, which hosts this working group, was launched to advance a shared vision in Thailand: that every motorcyclist and rider is protected, that quality helmets are accessible, and that wearing helmets becomes as natural as breathing,” shared Jimmy Tang, Chief of Staff at AIP Foundation.
