As part of the Safety Delivered Delivered program in Myanmar, 113 teachers from two project schools in Mandalay participated in a helmet safety training, which aimed to empower teachers to take a more active role in ensuring their students’ safety on the roads.

During the training, teachers shared their personal experiences and the challenges they faced when encouraging their students to always wear helmets whenever they travel by motorcycle. Teachers and training coordinators collaborated to develop a lesson plan to share with their students after the training, including teaching materials on helmet use. As a result of the workshop, teachers now have an action plan and have committed to putting helmets on their students, regardless of the distance or time traveled, when riding on a motorcycle.

With the support of The UPS Foundation, Safety Delivered Delivered was successfully implemented in Myanmar for the first time between 2017-2018, in partnership with the Mandalay Region Education Office. AIP Foundation will continue to establish a school-based helmet program to increase helmet use at schools through 2020. The Safety Delivered program activities will include: selecting target schools, conducting trainings for all school teachers on helmet fitting and proper helmet use, conducting helmet handover ceremonies, and filming videos for pre- and post-intervention analysis. Over the two year period, between 2019 to 2020, Safety Delivered aims to reach a total of 3,000 students and teachers.
