BANGKOK, Thailand – 14 January 2026

On 14 January, AIP Foundation hosted a helmet handover ceremony as part of the SafeGuarding Futures: A Helmet-Wearing Initiative for Young Road Users in Thailand project. The project, implemented in partnership with The Royal Automobile Association of Thailand Under Royal Patronage (RAAT) and the Academic Subcommittee on Safe Road Users under the National Road Safety Center, is supported by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) under its Safe and Sustainable Mobility Grant 2025 and the FIA Foundation.

The ceremony took place at Wat Lat Phrao School – one of the project’s four target schools. Attendees included target school representatives, students, and government officials including Ms. Aranya Pondchaiya, Vice Governor of Bangkok. Sir Greig Craft, Founder and President, represented AIP Foundation.

The ceremony aimed to reinforce the project’s message and motivate students and teachers to employ road safety and helmet safety practices. It also strengthened collaboration between the different stakeholder groups, building off of the project’s earlier production and distribution of helmets in November and December. The ceremony focused on the symbolic helmet handover between the project partners and the target schools. Other highlights of the ceremony included an overview of the project goals and objectives by RAAT and AIP Foundation, overview of the Global Road Safety Initiatives and Safety Goals by the FIA, a presentation of the winning videos of the project’s creative social media competition, and a trophy award ceremony honoring the four target schools.

The four target schools – each a Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Secondary school – were identified as needing helmet support for students and located in areas with high road-traffic accident risks. As a result, the project distributed 1,200 helmets amongst students, with each target school receiving 300 helmets.

As part of the project, a creative social media competition was launched between August-September 2025 to promote helmet safety practices among secondary and high school students in Bangkok.

The competition aimed to promote helmet safety awareness and inspire students to share their own road safety practices with peers, fostering creativity and youth leadership in road safety advocacy. The competition was open not only to students from the project’s target schools but middle and high schools across the BMA.

Students submitted short videos showcasing helmet safety best practices and encouraging safe behaviors among young road users. Five awards were presented – three selected by a judging committee and two determined by popular votes based on likes and shares. The campaign successfully empowered young people as advocates for road safety and demonstrated the impact of social media in building a strong culture of helmet use and safe mobility across Thailand.
