AN GIANG and VINH LONG Provinces, Vietnam – May 30, 2026

Following the training of teachers across the Mekong Delta through multi-day workshops, aimed at equipping them with the skills to mentor youth leaders and promote road safety and youth well-being, 840 core students at 28 schools in An Giang and Vinh Long provinces participated in teacher-led trainings through April and May.

The trainings were held as part of the AI&Me: Empowering Youth for Livable Cities program supported by Fondation Botnar and the FIA Foundation, with implementation led by AIP Foundation, in partnership with Youth for Road Safety (YOURS) and the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP). The trainings covered topics including facilitation skills, peer education, human learning process elements, and stress management. 

The training program has introduced teachers and students to new, creative teaching and learning methods, contributing to fostering of interaction and proactiveness in the classroom. Beyond simply updating knowledge on the current status of road traffic safety in Vietnam and globally, the program has equipped students with important tools and skills to confidently raise their voices and contribute opinions to relevant authorities regarding traffic issues around their schools. Additionally, through hands-on practice in lesson planning, students have honed their ability to select appropriate learning methods to effectively implement peer education activities at school.

Mr. Mai Huu Thuan, a teacher at Huynh Tan Phat High School, who participated in both the teacher training and subsequently coordinated the training with his core students, observed:

“Previously, in traditional awareness sessions, the speaker would just read and the audience would just listen; sometimes students listened but did not understand deeply. But now, they listen, practice more, experience more, and their open thinking is stimulated, allowing them to express their own thoughts. As a result, their ability to access knowledge has improved, and they remember the content more deeply.”

Dang Bao Thy, a student from Binh Minh High School in Vinh Long, described her experience:

“With this learning style and classroom layout, I find the content more engaging than in a traditional classroom setting. Through presentations and games, I feel that my contributions are better heard. This helps me remember information more easily, develop various soft skills, and become more confident in expressing my own opinions.”
