Vietnam - December 5, 2014

From December 3-5, AIP Foundation organized a capacity training workshop for policymakers and journalists from three southern provinces (Can Tho, An Giang and Tra Vinh) in Vietnam. Supported by the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), the capacity trainings provide attendees necessary skills and knowledge on child helmet legislation and implementation in Vietnam. This is also an opportunity for both AIP Foundation and provincial stakeholders to build a network of road safety partners and create a community of practice following the training.

Participants in the trainings included members of the provincial Traffic Safety Committee, Traffic Police, Youth Union, theVietnamese Fatherland Front, Vietnamese Women’s Association, and journalists.

The trainings included both theoretical and practical knowledge, where participants shared lessons learned and experience on child helmet implementation. Furthermore, a field trip to primary school helped participants to experience the local traffic environment, observe the helmet wearing rates, and watch how the traffic police communicate with parents. After the training, the participants committed to follow up with the program by developing their local action plan in order to support National Traffic Safety Committee’s National Action Plan on Child Helmet Use.
