PERTH, Western Australia — October 23, 2025

This year’s Australasian Road Safety Conference took place in Perth, Western Australia, bringing together global experts and practitioners committed to advancing safer roads for all.

On the opening day, Quynh Anh Phan, Program Assistant at AIP Foundation, presented on Vietnam’s successful school zones speed case study, sharing insights and experiences from AIP Foundation’s ongoing efforts to protect children across the country.

AIP Foundation first launched the initiative in 2018 under theSlow Zones, Safe Zonesprogram.  The program has shown the impact locally in Pleiku, Gia Lai and evolved into a national movement advocating for safer speeds around schools with Safe School Zones Guide Program, improved infrastructure, and stronger enforcement, saving lives and setting an example for other countries in the region.

Following her presentation, Quynh Anh and the AIP Foundation team were invited by Paul Besant, Executive Manager of the Western Australia Police Force, for an insightful school zone tour around Perth. During the visit, Paul demonstrated how school zones are managed locally, including the role of trained traffic wardens who guide students and parents safely across roads during peak hours.

As a gesture of partnership and goodwill, Paul also presented the team with official school zone signage and expressed his openness to support Vietnam’s future road safety efforts by sharing usable signs and materials over the long term. This exchange highlighted the importance of international collaboration and knowledge sharing in building safer, more resilient communities for children everywhere.
