AIP Foundation joined global injury prevention and road safety leaders at SAFETY 2026 – the 16th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion, held in Cape Town, South Africa, from 1–4 September 2026.

Bringing together researchers, practitioners, policymakers and organizations from around the world, the conference provided a platform to exchange evidence and approaches for preventing injuries and building safer, healthier communities.

Representing AIP Foundation, Phong Le shared the Foundation’s latest research and multisectoral approaches to road safety through three presentations:

• Child Restraint Systems (CRS): Exploring the integration of CRS regulations into Viet Nam’s 2024 Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety.
• STABLE Study: Presenting research investigating whether vision-corrected spectacles can reduce crash and near-crash risks among young myopic motorbike drivers aged 18–23, connecting public health and transport interventions.
• The Safeguard program in Thailand: Highlighting how multisectoral coordination can strengthen helmet safety and support more effective road safety interventions.

Together, the presentations demonstrated how AIP Foundation brings different sectors, stakeholders and areas of expertise together to address complex road safety challenges — from legislation and enforcement to public health, research and community engagement.

AIP Foundation’s work also reflects key themes highlighted in the Ubuntu Cape Town Declaration, including the importance of a whole-of-society approach that engages government, communities, academia, civil society and the private sector. Through initiatives such as its Youth Engagement projects, AIP Foundation also works to elevate the voices of young people and communities in shaping safer transport environments, while using research and evidence to inform advocacy and policy.

A key takeaway from SAFETY 2026 was that injury prevention is inherently multidisciplinary. Effective solutions require collaboration across sectors and meaningful engagement with the people and communities affected. AIP Foundation’s experience across its international programs demonstrates how this approach can translate research, partnerships and advocacy into practical solutions that help save lives.

By participating in global platforms such as SAFETY 2026, AIP Foundation continues to share lessons from its work, learn from international peers and contribute to collective efforts to advance road safety and injury prevention worldwide.
