The Legal Development Program (LDP), held the Seminar on Safe Motorcycles: A Way to Reduce Road Traffic Injuries and Fatalities Among Young People recently to push for development and implementation of measures to improve the safety of young motorcycle riders who, in Thailand, account for the majority of road crashes involving motorcycles.
In the morning, Thanachart Paliyawate, a LDP member and legal advisor for the Central Juvenile and Family Court, joined other panelists including Dr. Thanapong Jinawong, chief of Road Safety Policy Foundation; Kornvika Boontanont, a researcher at Child Safety Promotion and Injury Prevention Research Center; and Supakorn Phobkhuntod, a youth representative, to discuss the safety of young motorcycle riders in the context of Thailand.
This was followed by a panel discussion in the afternoon on how to improve the safety of young motorcycle riders in a sustainable manner. The panelists included Dr. Liviu Vedrasco, a World Health Organization representative; AIP Foundation’s Oratai Junsuwanaruk; LDP member Supa Chotngam of the Department of Land Transport and Vinai Kitchoke, senior advisor of the Thai Motorcycle Enterprise Association.
