As a part of the long-term Safe Kids Walk This Way program in Vietnam, two school surveys of the Safe School Zone project were conducted in July 2014 and February 2015 by relevant provincial and district level stakeholders. Late January, Deputy Director of Standing Committee of HCM TSC, Vice Chairman of District People’s Committee, and representatives from the HCM Department of Transport and District Department of Education and Training and Traffic Police attended the first Working Committee Meeting where the result of these surveys was presented.
Enthusiastic stakeholders discussed road safety issues and proposed solutions for the surveyed schools. Three schools (Phuoc Thanh Primary School, Long Truong and Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School) were chosen for implementation. The roles, responsibilities of stakeholders and cost-share partners were also discussed and identified. In addition, the meeting successfully advocated for asphalt spread in front of one of the surveyed schools; this will be completed before the Lunar New year to help students travel safely to school.
