Empowering teachers within their communities through Helmets for Families

November 21, 2019

Supported by Manulife Cambodia, teachers at Onlong Vil Primary School in Battambang Province, Cambodia, participated in a vital road safety training focused on proper helmet use on motorcycles. A total of 40 teachers joined the road safety training, as part of the Helmets for Families program, and learned about the benefits of correct helmet use for their families and community. The training also highlighted the active role that teachers must take to ensure that their students wear helmets every time they travel by bicycle or motorcycle.

At the training, the teachers shared their experiences and techniques on how to encourage students to always wear their helmets. Teachers and program coordinators also worked together to create a workplan, lesson plan, and teaching materials to educate students on these topics following the training. At the conclusion of the event, teachers committed to putting helmets on their students, no matter the distance or travel time, when riding on a motorcycle.
