Chevron Street Wise Road Safety Corner launched to encourage life-long road safety skills for primary school students

January 20, 2022

SONGKHLA, Thailand – January 20, 2022

To achieve the target of preventing at least 50% of road injuries and fatalities as set out by the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, Chevron Street Wise program celebrated the launch of a Road Safety Corner at Ban Khao Dang School. This primary school is located on a main highway, plagued by heavy traffic smaller motorcycles mixing with huge buses and container transportation trucks. This unsafe environment highly impacts the commuting of vulnerable road users, including school children and pedestrians.

The Road Safety Corner is designed as an interactive road safety teaching area, to raise road safety awareness among the primary students at the school. Students will be able to explore hands-on different road safety topics such as ‘how to be safe on the road’ at the newly installed Chevron Street Wise Road Safety Corner.

At the opening ceremony, the school director, as well as teachers and staff, were delighted to welcome the special participation of Mr. Artit Krichphiphat, General Manager Business Support at Chevron Thailand, and Mrs. Thirataan Warapakasap, Plan and Policy Analyst at the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Regional Center 12 in Thailand.

Chevron Thailand has partnered with AIP Foundation since 2014 to implement the Chevron Street Wise program to create a safer environment for road users – especially young children – through education, awareness-raising, as well as stakeholders, and community engagement. The project has benefited more than 30,000 children, parents, teachers, and community members who have demonstrated improved road safety knowledge and skills.
