AIP Foundation participates at the National Stakeholder Meeting for Road Safety hosted by the NTSC and WHO in Vietnam

July 19, 2022

HANOI, Vietnam – July 19, 2022

In order to achieve the ambitious target set out by the United Nations General Assembly to prevent at least 50% of road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030, we must work together. Around the world, we all have a stake in improving global road safety. This means that it is up to each and everyone one of us to ensure that all persons can access safe and affordable modes of transportation across the globe.

A Global Agenda for Road Safety

In that spirit and implementing Resolution No. A74/299 of the UN General Assembly declaring the decade of action for road traffic safety 2021-2030, the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), organized a Road Safety National Stakeholder Meeting to discuss the contents and solutions to effectively implement the goals of the Global Action Plan on Traffic Safety and share experiences and results.

The special participation of representatives from the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety led discussions as part of the National Stakeholder Meeting in Vietnam. The discussion was formed by four main leading topics, including advocacy, legislation/policy, mass media campaigns and data monitoring.

The Global Plan and Vietnam’s National Strategy

The Global Plan aligns with Vietnam’s National Road Safety Strategy and supports meeting the goals of the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development as part of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030.

The Ministry of Transport issued Decision No. 419/QD-BGTVT dated March 18, 2021, approving the implementation plan of the National Strategy to ensure road traffic order and safety during the 2021 – 2030 period with a vision to 2045 with the ultimate goal to annually reduce 5 – 10% of deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents in a sustainable way.

All new roads and those under maintenance will meet road safety criteria before opening up for traffic. From 2031 to 2045, the numbers of road accidents, deaths, and injuries relating to road accidents will gradually reduce, toward a “Vision Zero” in which no one will lose their lives on the roads.
