We joined fellow members of the road safety organizations network in Songkhla Province for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Corporate Measures for Road Safety between Tesco Lotus, the Road Accident Victims Protection Company Limited (RVP), Songkhla Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center, and members of the Songkhla Provincial Police. The MOU was developed as part of Thailand’s national agenda in support of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020. The agreement addresses measures that the private sector can employ to promote greater helmet use, both by motorcycle drivers and passengers, in order to reduce road crash injuries and fatalities.

The Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011–2020 was officially proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in March 2010. Its goal is to stabilize and reduce the forecast level of road crash injuries and fatalities around the world. It is estimated that five million lives could be saved on the world’s roads during the decade.
