AIP Foundation and partners release the AI&Me Scalability Analysis Report empowering youth at the heart of mobility

 HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam – May 30, 2024 

Our innovative Big Data and AI road safety program, AI&Me: Empowering Youth for Safer Roads, has been positively engaging youth to raise their voices for safe mobility across Vietnam. Earlier this year, the AI&Me program wrapped up across Yen Bai, Gia Lai and Ho Chi Minh City, and we celebrated the following successful results: over 20,000 pins were scored to indicate high-risk areas using the Youth Engagement App, and over 1,800 young students were empowered with mobility and road safety skills. In addition, a total of 98 schools out of the 106 schools were identified from the Big Data screening and had 1-2 star ratings; and a Citizen Portal was embedded in five provincial government websites to support dialogues with communities and decision-makers to ignite change toward a healthy and safe environment for young people to thrive.

Scalability to safeguard future generations in Vietnam

As the AI&Me program comes to a close across Vietnam, we are now proudly launching the Scalibility Analysis Report 2024. This Scalability Analysis Report, and the forthcoming Public Facing Report, shed light on the feasibility, efficiency, and scalability of the AI&Me digital framework for addressing road hazards and enhancing the public’s awareness of road safety risk after its 3 years of pilot implementation in  Vietnam. During its course, the program championed three technological innovations: the Big Data Screening Methodology, Star Rating for Schools (SR4S) and the Youth Engagement App (YEA). 

Through the report, the audiences, stakeholders and relevant sectors in the mobility field, will gain a better understanding of how the three digital initiatives complement and provide a comprehensive approach to identify high-risk school zones. In addition, the reports explains why the framework has potential to scale up in different contexts based on the four essential criteria being Accessibility, Acceptability, Implementation Cost and Sustainability, and assesses how it fits within the global strategy for future intervention solutions. The report further demonstrates the utilization of emerging technology to inform government stakeholders about areas with hazardous road conditions requiring intervention. 

Based on the results and empirical evidence from the pilot phase in three provinces in Vietnam listed above, the AI&Me program has confirmed the viability of the approach and the potential to replicate the successful and cost-efficient intervention in other countries worldwide. 

 AI for Good: Using Big Data to save lives on Vietnam roads

AIP Foundation’s three-year AI&Me: Empowering youth for Safer Roads program is supported by Fondation Botnar –  a Swiss philanthropic foundation working to improve the health and well-being of young people living in cities around the world – as well as the FIA Foundation, Anditi, and the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP). The Traffic Safety Committees and the Department of Education and Training of all three provinces support the launch of the program in their areas.

In recent years, big data technology has been utilized to transform mobility and road safety through predictive analysis by evaluating historical data to pinpoint high-risk areas. These maps enable authorities to take preventative measures before casualties happen.
